I'm Right, You're Wrong

I've been thinking about the current political climate in Washington , D.C. and the country in general. (not really a fun topic!) I find it very disheartening that we seem to be so polarized. Without any exception that I'm aware of, Republicans seem to be unanimously against anything that is suggested by the Democrats. Democrats are only slightly better. The 'trickle down' theory seems to be working in this regard. In my observation, most Americans have adopted this same stance, which really boils down to an "I'm right, you're wrong" way of thinking. No idea or opinion is ever completely right or completely wrong.

We all need to step away from this idea, and away from our feeling that trying to change anything in Washington D.C. is hopeless. Difficult, yes; hopeless, no. The place to start is by examining your own mind set; start noticing what parts of an opposing view just might have some merit. Then begin to demand of our representatives that they do the same. Let them know we are tired of fancy (mostly canned) speeches; we need to see some independent thinking and action . Words and ideas have no meaning unless they are accompanied by action.

Wow! Great minds think alike! I wrote an article with the same title on the seventh, and I think we agree on everything! Great piece.

What a wonderful, sane article, Joyce. I don't think the topic is boring, but I do get tired of how people use politics to dump their own anger and bigoted views. So your article is a breath of fresh air and has a ring of truth and authority to it. Thanks.

Simply yet perfectly stated. How much would get accomplished if those in Washington actually listened? Not to their 'accomplices', but to those they represent.

Thanks for the comment, Michael. Wouldn't it be nice to see the people in Washington listen to "the People", rather than their contributors?

joyce,

well done. i have my own take on this (the lost art of arguements, bing limousin/search warp)-it's not the folks, it's the system. the process cultivates this kind of primitive survival instincts. nobody wins-for long...
